DowAksa CEO Douglas Parks Recognized for Distinguished Leadership in Promoting Turkish-American Business Growth

WASHINGTON, DC – The American-Turkish Council and the U.S.-Turkey Business Council
honored DowAksa’s Chief Executive Officer Douglas Parks with the Distinguished Leadership
Award at the 35th Annual Conference on U.S.-Turkey Relations in Washington, DC.
Parks, who has served as DowAksa’s CEO since late 2015, was honored for his work promoting
and growing the carbon fiber and composites joint venture DowAksa, a 50/50 joint venture
between The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) and Aksa Akrilik Kimya Sanayii A.Ş., along
with efforts to grow partnerships with commercial, academic and laboratory partners in the
United States and Turkey.
In receiving the award, Parks noted the strength of the technological and manufacturing bonds
that united Aksa and Dow , and noted the impact that carbon fiber is having across various
markets including automotive, wind energy, aerospace and defense.
Parks briefed conference participants about DowAksa’s development efforts in aerospace and
defense during a defense industry panel together with representatives of Turkish Aerospace
Industries, Lockheed Martin and other defense sector players. In addition, DowAksa Board
Chair Mehmet Ali Berkman joined other bilateral business and government representatives to
discuss strategies for growing bilateral trade partnerships, pointing to DowAksa’s activities as
a model for potential export growth in multiple industrial sectors.
Conference attendees also engaged with government officials from Turkey and the U.S.
including HE Mehmet Simsek, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, plus U.S. Trade Representative
Michael Froman. The two-day conference in Washington, D.C. concluded November 1.
